The Katherine A. Treherne, MD Scholarship shall be awarded to an M3 student accepted into the MD program at Eastern Virginia Medical School, part of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. Student(s) must meet one or more of the following criteria: Be in good academic standing, demonstrate financial need, demonstrate interest in serving underserved communities, and have faced challenging social, economic, educational, or other life circumstances. Preference will be given to students with ties to Hampton Roads or to those who demonstrate intent to practice medicine in Hampton Roads or Virginia. Students must submit a 250-word personal statement detailing how they would incorporate Friends of Hampton Roads, Inc. organizational values as a student, and in the future as a practicing or/academic physician. The Office of Financial Aid will present qualified candidate essays to the Foundation for blind review. The Foundation will coordinate with the Donor to select the recipient(s) within seven (7) days of receiving the materials to ensure timely award distribution. The scholarship is renewable. |

Must have experience as a first responder (EMT, Police Officer, Firefighter; Volunteer or Paid) in the past five years. The recipient needs to present documentation of his/her experience and provide a brief essay of 250 words or less describing their experience as a first responder. Recipient must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. |
