The Katherine A. Treherne, MD Scholarship shall be awarded to an M3 student accepted into the MD program at Eastern Virginia Medical School, part of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. Student(s) must meet one or more of the following criteria: Be in good academic standing, demonstrate financial need, demonstrate interest in serving underserved communities, and have faced challenging social, economic, educational, or other life circumstances. Preference will be given to students with ties to Hampton Roads or to those who demonstrate intent to practice medicine in Hampton Roads or Virginia. Students must submit a 250-word personal statement detailing how they would incorporate Friends of Hampton Roads, Inc. organizational values as a student, and in the future as a practicing or/academic physician. The Office of Financial Aid will present qualified candidate essays to the Foundation for blind review. The Foundation will coordinate with the Donor to select the recipient(s) within seven (7) days of receiving the materials to ensure timely award distribution.

The Dr. and Mrs. Hugh Hemsley Restricted Scholarship is awarded to a third or fourth-year medical student with demonstrated financial need, who has indicated an interest in emergency medicine. Must have experience as a first responder (EMT, Police Officer, Firefighter; Volunteer or Paid) in the past five years. The recipient needs to present documentation of his/her experience and provide a brief essay of 250 words or less describing their experience as a first responder. Recipient must be in good academic standing and demonstrate financial need. |

The Krueger Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a first-year MD student raised in Virginia Beach. Must provide a short narrative, no more than 250 words describing past community service and/or volunteer experiences and how they plan to use those experiences and their future medical degree to help others. If a Virginia Beach student is not identified, a candidate may be from the Hampton Roads region. |

The Mansbach Scholarship supports an M3 or M4 student in good academic standing, who demonstrates merit and financial need. Preference will be given to students with expressed interest in clinical nutrition and/or gastroenterology as a subspecialty.
