Compliance is a shared institutional responsibility.

Old Dominion University's compliance program operates through a shared-responsibility model. University leaders and operational compliance owners are responsible for managing compliance within their respective areas, while University Compliance provides institution-wide guidance, coordination, resources, and support.

The University's approach emphasizes collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and risk-informed decision-making to support effective and sustainable compliance practices.

The Role of University Compliance

University Compliance serves as a strategic and advisory partner, helping connect people, information, and resources across the University to strengthen the management of institutional compliance responsibilities.

Our work focuses on:

Providing guidance and practical support to University leaders and compliance partners as they navigate compliance requirements and responsibilities.

Identifying and communicating regulatory developments, emerging compliance issues, and relevant information while developing tools and resources that support informed decision-making.

Strengthening communication and coordination through stakeholder engagement, institutional partnerships, and the University Compliance Network.

Helping identify emerging and heightened compliance risks and supporting proactive institutional planning and response.

Developing frameworks, tools, and resources that help strengthen compliance practices and adapt to changing regulatory and institutional needs.

Governance Structure

Effective compliance depends on individuals and offices across the University understanding and fulfilling their respective responsibilities.
