One community. One mission. 150,000 items to fight food insecurity.
Monarchs Give Back is a University-wide campaign that brings the Old Dominion University community together to address food insecurity in Hampton Roads. Since launching in Fall 2022 as part of President Brian O. Hemphill, Ph.D.’s inauguration, this collective effort has provided more than 225,000 food items to support Norfolk Public Schools students and ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ students through the Monarch Pantry.
In 2026, we’re setting our most ambitious goal yet — and we need every Monarch to help make it happen.
The 150,000 Item Challenge
During the 2026 Forward-Focused event, President Hemphill issued a bold call to action: collect 150,000 canned goods or monetary donations to support families facing food insecurity.
This goal represents a 50,000-item increase from last year — and reflects the growing need in our community. By launching earlier and expanding opportunities to give, Monarch Nation is rising to meet the moment.
Together, we can make a lasting impact — one item at a time.
