We are proud to announce that Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is now Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences Eastern Virginia Medical School at Old Dominion University. While our name has changed, our commitment to building a healthier community remains the same. Through our nationally recognized Graduate Medical Education programs, we continue to provide comprehensive, community-based training across multiple hospitals and clinics. This integration with ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ enhances our research and collaboration opportunities, further empowering us to address healthcare disparities and advance medical education.

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital
the core hospital for residency education, is the region's major tertiary care hospital and only Level I trauma center. The facility receives 30,000 annual ambulatory care center visits, 43,000 annual emergency room visits and nearly 2,400 annual General Surgery outpatient clinic visits. The General Surgical Services include: an emergency general surgery service managed by a senior resident; a trauma service managed by a senior resident; a bariatric service managed by a chief resident; and a professorial service, which includes surgical oncology, private patients of full-time faculty and indigent patients from a resident run clinic -- all managed by the chief resident. There are clinical rotations available in each of the surgical subspecialties.

Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters
is the only freestanding children's hospital in Virginia. Among the services at CHKD are a 28-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, an eight-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, an 18-bed Adolescent Unit, a 10-bed Infectious Disease Unit and emergency room facilities. The hospital sees more than 6,100 annual inpatient admission, more than 148,000 annual outpatient specialty and surgical clinic visits and 43,000 Emergency Department visits. Residents train at CHKD in neonatal and pediatric surgery. Additionally, the Nuss Procedure to treat Pectus Excavatum was developed at CHKD, and the group maintains a busy practice treating this condition.

Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC)
The has 142 acute beds in medicine, surgery, psychiatry and neurology, 234 extended care beds in intermediate medicine, palliative (hospice) care, spinal cord injury and nursing home care and a 294-bed rehabilitative residential care domiciliary for a total of 670 operating beds. A teaching hospital providing a full range of patient care services, Hampton VAMC features state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. First-year residents train at the VAMC in endoscopy.

Sentara Leigh Hospital
, located in Norfolk, is a 250-bed acute care facility. Residents on the surgical service treat private patients, giving them a broad educational and clinical experience in the field of general surgery, as well as in endocrine surgery and non-cardiac thoracic surgery. Junior residents learn principles of surgery, including pre- and post-operative care; perform minor surgical procedures; and assist in major operations. Chief residents have extensive operative experience under faculty supervision.

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital
is a 160-bed acute care hospital that serves southern Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and northeastern North Carolina. Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, in partnership with Bon Secours Virginia, brings together quality clinical outcomes, experienced physicians, award-winning patient safety initiatives, advanced technology and patient-centered care to benefit patients. The surgical services department consists of seven operation rooms, two endoscopy suites, two procedure rooms, sterile processing, a nine-bed post-anesthesia care unit and a 36-room pre- and post-surgery care unit. Residents rotate on the vascular service at SPAH.
