Engineering runs deep in Abby Buck’s family. She is set to become a third-generation engineer, following in the footsteps of her father and both grandfathers:

  • Frank Buck – B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, 1951, Drexel University
  • Gary Quinn – B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 1975, Drexel University
  • Joseph Buck – B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 1988, Drexel University

While honoring her family’s legacy, Buck chose to forge her own path by pursuing civil engineering at Old Dominion University—a place that, in her words, “felt like a true community.”

Buck’s decision to attend Ҵý was driven by the university’s welcoming atmosphere and the opportunities it offered:

  • Strong academic support and mentorship
  • A community that challenged and encouraged growth
  • Access to real-world experience and professional development

“Attending Ҵý was one of the best decisions of my life,” Buck said. “It opened doors that allowed me to thrive both academically and professionally.”

During her time at Ҵý, she:

  • Secured an internship with HRSD, gaining hands-on experience in water resource management
  • Became actively involved in:
    • ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers)
    • Chi Epsilon (Civil Engineering Honor Society)
  • Earned the CEEVC William Boone Scholarship (Fall 2024)

After graduation, Abby will begin working as a water resource engineer for , a renowned global company.
