About this Program

Old Dominion University offers a Minor in Military Leadership.. The minor in military leadership is a high quality, interdisciplinary, multidimensional, experiential, and culturally diverse program that exposes students to, and prepares them for, real life leadership opportunities and challenges. A foundation of naval science is established including naval history, shipboard navigation, naval operations, ship systems, evolution of warfare, and manuevering warfare. Students explore issues of leadership, citizenship, and social change within the context of an inquiry, experiential, and competency-based instructional design.

What are the requirements to apply for Military Leadership - Navy at ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½?
Students entering the Minor program in Military Leadership - Navy should meet the minimum university admission requirements Undergraduate Admission.
  • All students are eligible to register and participate in NAVS courses regardless whether they are in the NROTC program. 

  • The Military Leadership – Navy minor can be declared by contacting a staff member within the Naval Science department.

Manage the operation of communications, detection, and weapons systems essential for controlling air, ground, and naval operations. Duties include managing critical communication links between air, naval, and ground forces; formulating and implementing emergency plans for natural and wartime disasters; coordinating emergency response teams and agencies; evaluating command center information and need for high-level military and government reporting; managing the operation of surveillance and detection systems; providing technical information and advice on capabilities and operational readiness; and directing operation of weapons targeting, firing, and launch computer systems.

Perform engineering duties in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft. May conduct basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture. May recommend improvements in testing equipment and techniques.
